Don't feel confused. If you haven't heard of Syntax Olevia before, it's not because of some deficiency on your part. They're just not a very high profile brand. At least they aren't right now; we think that when people become aware of some of the great bargains that can be had with Syntax Olevia TV sets, their stock and credibility is going to rise significantly. We picked this 37" LCD (Model 337H) because it's the best value available for a TV of this size, and according to those who have bought and used this TV, it doesn't offer a sub-standard HD experience just because it's cheaper.
Building a Reputation
Syntax Olevia is a relatively new player on the market, and aiming their prices low is the only way to get out from under big industry giants like Sony and Panasonic. They get their LCD panels from the same places as the big boys (most of the panels are produced by LG/Phillips and then the different brands add their special sauce), so a difference in quality isn't really the issue. The issue is whether or not you can trust Syntax Olevia, and based on the exceptional reviews supplied by satisfied users, we're confident that you can put your money toward this TV and rest assured you'll get a great product.
Surprisingly Versatile
For such a low price, you'd expect to get short changed when it comes to features, but you'd be wrong! Syntax has done away with built-in HDTV tuners, so if you were hoping to get over-the-air broadcasts you're out of luck, but since most people have HD cable service, it is a minor issue. The set's HDMI input allows for high-quality HD connections from DVD players or other devices, and a handy VGA input can turn this 37" display into an oversized computer monitor.
