Sony BRAVIA televisions have a lot going for them. They're backed up with a well-known, reputable brand name, have legions of devoted followers, and a fairly decent ad campaign that spreads the word about their stylish design and high-definition quality.
This 40" LCD from Sony lives up to the expectations raised around the BRAVIA line. The KDL-40S3000 is an excellent HDTV for people who want a big-screen at an affordable price. For just around $1,000, this LCD can be yours. How do they keep the price down? This model plays it safe; rather than overloading the TV with 1080p resolution, Sony has equipped the KDL-40S3000 with 720p HD resolution.
At this size range, only the most finicky (and possibly delusional) people will notice any difference between the picture quality of a 1080p TV and 720p TV. It's really more of an issue at sizes above 50 or 55 inches. The difference that everybody will certainly notice is on the price tag. Going with 720p will save you a few hundred dollars with little appreciable change in the HD experience.
