The Samsung LN40A650A is a next-generation HDTV, fully equipped to handle the most demanding content with pitch-perfect precision. This is definitely a "cutting edge" HDTV, and we advise consumers that none of these specifications are absolutely necessary, but if you've got the money to spend and want to future-proof your purchase so you can be sure that no new TV will come along and make yours obsolete, this 40-inch LCD will do the trick.
The LN40A650A has full 1080p resolution, the maximum pixels possible for the maximum detail possible. Keep in mind, broadcast television does not provide 1080p content, and most likely will not for many many years if ever. If you want a 1080p fix, you'll need to invest in a Blu-Ray disc player or a next-gen video game console.
There will be plenty of room to hook up those HD accessories with the four HDMI inputs on the LN40A650A, which provide best-quality connections for all your peripherals.
The LN40A650A also boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, which is the new marketing hype specification meant to make you feel inadequate for not having it. The idea is that 120Hz can accurately cover the 24 and 30 frames per second rates of film and TV, and allow for less blurring in high-motion scenes like sports matches. You'd have to be a real videophile to notice, but it can't hurt.
