Beautiful, bright, HDMI, and the right size (TomH - 1/8/07)

I bought this TV's smaller sibling a while back (TC-LX2650) for about twice what I paid for this one recently. They are both excellent: bright, easy to set up and use, and have great high definition pictures. When i first got my first TV, I was surprised that the standard TV signal looked kind of lousy, and subsequently got an AV Receiver that did video up-conversion; that *dramatically* improved the picture quality so that viewing standard TV looks reasonably good. HD or DVDs, of course, look fantastic.

The HDMI interface is a thing of beauty. But as I found out recently, not any old AV Receiver with HDMI will do what you really need. Ideally any video signal you send to the TV would come from one HDMI cable ... from an AV Receiver that up-converted any non-HD signal to HD. My Yamaha HTR-5990 receiver does this and it's great; my cheaper Panasonic AVR doesn't (it just passes along the HDMI connection from a single HDMI source, like a DVD player). So get a good receiver and it will make everything you watch on this TV look superb.

Two quibbles: 1) the IR port, where your remote control commands are received, doesn't do a great job, so it sometime takes a few tries to get the TV off or on, 2) the mounting location on the rear has a little bump, so spacers are needed to make a mounting plate lie flat (the plate I got came with the spacers, so maybe this is not really an issue :-).
