GPS with Free Traffic Reports

Recently, some GPS brands have begun offering their traffic report services free of charge, with no subscription. These are three of our favorite GPS receivers that include free traffic reports.

Garmin 1490T

from $296.00
The Garmin 1490T is a very powerful GPS receiver, and one of the largest on the market. The 1490T features an above-average 5-inch widescreen LCD display, providing greater detail and clearer mapping than ever before. It's definitely a high-end model, though the price tag is not as outrageous as one might expect. Especially when you factor in the value of free traffic updates, available for as long as you own the receiver.

Magellan 1475T

from $149.99
The Magellan RoadMate 1475T manages to almost match the Garmin 1490T, while keeping the price tag far lower. The only thing missing on the 1475T that the 1490T has is Bluetooth functionality for hands-free cell phone calls. That, and 0.3-inches on the display. The 1475T has a 4.7-inch display, which is more than enough room for reading maps, checking points of interest, and lane-assist information. Though it has an uphill battle against Garmin, the free, lifetime traffic updates are a nice start.

Garmin 1370T

from $309.99
The Garmin 1370T is a nice alternative for consumers who were interested in the feature-set of the Garmin 1490T but were turned off by the size of the unit. While a 5-inch display is nice, it definitely cuts down on the portability of the device. Being able to slip a GPS receiver into a bag or pocket is a big advantage. The 1370T is essentially the exact same receiver as the 1490T, except it has a more manageable 4.3-inch widescreen LCD display.
